How to Obtain a Private Applicator License

STEPS TO BECOMING A PRIVATE PESTICIDE APPLICATOR

Step 1: Attend a Private Pesticide Applicator training session FIRST. Contact your county Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office for training opportunities. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension offers the Texas Private Applicator Training Course online. You will find more information at agrilifelearn.tamu.edu/s/product/texas-private-pesticide-applicator-training/01t4x000002ciNUAAY
o Upon completion of the training, a Training Verification form (PA-404/D-1411) will be provided to the applicant. A Certificate of Completion will be issued upon completion of the online course.
o You may purchase training materials at www-aes.tamu.edu or call (979) 845-3849.

Step 2: Complete and submit the application for the Private Pesticide Applicator (PA-400P), $100 license fee, and a copy of the Training Verification form. This form is available at TexasAgriculture.gov/Forms or by calling TDA at (800) 835-5832. Please note the Private Pesticide Applicator Application is not available online and must be mailed to:
o Texas Department of Agriculture, PO Box 12076, Austin, TX 78711

Step 3: When the license application is processed, TDA will send the applicant a letter in the mail with their Account Number. This Account Number will be the number the applicator will use to register and schedule exam(s) with Metro.

Step 4: Applicants can go to Metrosignup.com to schedule exams. For assistance or support call (877) 533-2900 or by email at support@metroinstitute.com.
o An applicant must pass the Private Applicator exam to be issued a license.
o The applicant will pay $64 per exam.
o There is a 24-hour waiting period to take a repeat exam.

Step 5: Upon completion of the exam, the testing center will provide test results immediately. A passing grade is 70% or higher.

Step 6: Metro will send exam scores to TDA daily. If all licensing criteria are met, TDA will issue the
license.
